WCCS Program Results
Early Learning Centers –
A high quality kindergarten
readiness program was provided
for a total of
306 low income pre-schoolers
through the federally
funded Head Start program.
By the end of
the school year children’s
English Language skills
had increased 52%, Math
Content Standards increased
47%, and Science skills
increased 54%.
The 741 Center – Over 1,510 older adults participated in more
than 1,280 various programs, activities and trips. New programs were
added to keep variety and interest, such as: a genealogical research class,
older and wiser workout for seniors, billiards, big screen movies
and woodcarving.
Family Services – Temporary emergency financial assistance was
provided to 824 struggling families. Of these, 597 households received
utility assistance, 111 rent assistance to avoid being evicted, and 116
with medical assistance, primarily to purchase medication. Timely
referrals and linkages were also provided to 821 families for other local
non-profits.
HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) – The 2010 Winter Crisis
and the Summer Cooling Programs approved over 2,106 applications making
it the largest year for utility assistance in Warren County Emergency
HEAP’s history. Three new energy programs were administered serving an
additional 463 clients facing economic hardship.
HWAP (Home Weatherization Assistance Program) – The
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act made it possible for 147 Warren
County homes to be weatherized in 2010, an increase of 86% over 2009.
Families were served just when they needed it most. The program also
created six jobs locally, and two day centers were weatherized in Lebanon for
the Interfaith Hospitality Network
RSVP Volunteer Program – Non-profits increased their reliance on
volunteers during the economic downturn. RSVP’s 311 volunteers supported
36 Warren County non-profits with 40,281 hours of service, helping
them to maintain or expand their programs.
Senior Nutrition – Nutrition is one of the most important factors in
successful aging. The Meals On Wheels™ program delivered over 3,047 lunches
each week to seniors who could not prepare their own meals. Seven Dining
Centers around the county served a total of 31,235 meals to older adults providing
an opportunity to socialize while enjoying nutritionally-balanced meals.
Senior Transportation – Lack
of transportation is the single most
isolating factor for older adults. In any
given day, drivers traveled to five or six
different counties to help Warren
County residents meet medical needs.
Last year they made 6,161 trips transporting
501 unduplicated residents.
Supportive Services – Home repair costs are a huge issue for many seniors,
especially those living in deteriorating older homes. A lifeline was given
to 57 seniors in 2010 to assist with over $275,000 in home repairs, involving
heating, plumbing and electrical work. Over 635 seniors were provided
with information and assistance on benefits, discount programs, insurance,
and medication.
