SUSAN'S STORY
“Which payment – utility, car, or home mortgage – should I pay?”
Susan asked Linda. Susan, the single parent of two young children,
had been off work for 6 weeks, without pay, due to medical problems.
Their car, their modest two-bedroom home, their lives were in a
precarious position.
If Susan lost her car, she couldn’t continue to work. She had already
missed a mortgage payment and needed to refill several expensive
prescriptions. What should she do?
At WCCS Family Services, Linda identified several resources that kept
Susan current on her mortgage payment and refilled her medications.
WCCS E-HEAP (Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program) also
helped with that month’s utility bill. In itself, the amount of money
Susan needed wasn’t huge, but it helped her get back in control of her
life – and start moving forward.
